Schirin Kretschmann (*1980 in Karlsruhe, lives and works in Berlin and Munich) has developed works for public spaces as well as international galleries and institutions (Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Kunstverein Hannover, Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Magazin4 Bregenzer Kunstverein/A, Kunstverein Salzburg/A, Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur/CH, Kunsthaus Baselland/CH, Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts/VRC, Kunstverein Freiburg, Kunstverein Salzburg/A, Städtische Galerie Nordhorn, CAPC Coimbra/Pt, CRAC Alsace/F et al.) and has received numerous awards. She studied Fine Arts at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe and at the ENPEG La Esmeralda Mexico City as well as German Studies at the University of Freiburg. In artistic and curatorial research projects (Praeparat Bergsturz, Bern University of the Arts, six notes for the next… Magazin4, Bregenz Kunstverein, DFG-Centre for Advanced Studies “Imaginaria of Force” at the University of Hamburg) she was working on transdisciplinary methods of knowledge and iconic research. She is doing an artistic PhD and researching on Liminals of Painting in the expanded field (NCCR Iconic Criticism, University of Basel and Bauhaus-University Weimar). She has taught at international art and design colleges. Since 2020 she is professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich.
