Description: The Kitchen is Burning transforms the familiar space of the kitchen into an after-hours sanctuary where art and underground beats collide. Inspired by the hidden gatherings that spill into kitchens across the city once the party ends, the work reimagines these spaces as sites of energy, intimacy, and creative release. Cupboards and drawers open not to pots and plates, but to pen-and-ink drawings of my signature storm clouds, alive with lightning, filling the room with an electric tension. The piece channels the pulse of underground music culture into a domestic setting, where rhythm, memory, and visual vibration merge. In this burning kitchen, everyday life becomes charged with the same intensity as the dance floor—unpredictable, chaotic, and alive.

    About the artist

Pauly Gleason is an American artist who has been based in Berlin since 1990. Deeply inspired by the city’s nightlife and the global electronic music scene—particularly techno and house—his work translates rhythm, energy, and atmosphere into visual form.

Working across ink, aquarelle, oil, and acrylic on canvas and metal, Gleason creates bold compositions that merge spontaneity with intensity. His signature imagery of clouds hurling lightning bolts originates from freestyle pen drawings on white paper, where movement and immediacy drive the process.

For this exhibition, Gleason presents new works born from this practice: raw, charged visions that capture the pulse of music, light, and urban life.
