Andrea Welton, (b. 1988), is a painter from Half Moon Bay, CA currently residing in Claremont, CA. She received her MFA from UC Irvine. Her paintings are made in response to the lived experience of the body in nature. She considers them scores of the landscape, choreographed compositions of the landscape in painted notation. In both the landscape and the studio, she consider the use of her body, materials, and paint. Through a highly utopic lens, she asks: How does one construct a relationship with the land?
Andrea has been an Artist in Residence at Picture Berlin, PLAYA Summer Lake, and Vermont Studio Center as well as participated in Fritz Haeg’s ongoing project, Salmon Creek Farm. Her work has been shown at galleries such as Ochi Projects, Praz-Delvallade - Unit 5, Meinblau Projektraum, Slocumb Gallery, San Diego Art Institute, Salt Fine Art, the UAG Gallery and included in shows such as the CAA MFA Exhibition at CalState LA Fine Arts Gallery, and Painting in the Abstract at Great Park Gallery.
